BYD is set to launch its electric sedan, the BYD Seal EV, in India on March 5, 2024. Recently, the BYD Seal EV was spotted in India with minimal camouflage. Unofficial bookings for this highly anticipated vehicle have already begun.
The BYD Seal EV, introduced at the 2023 Auto Expo in India, will be BYD’s third model for the Indian market. It will enter the Indian market as a direct competitor to the Kia EV6 and Hyundai IONIQ 5. Additionally, it will face competition from the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 6, which is expected to be launched next year.

Globally, the Seal EV offers two battery pack options. The smaller battery pack, with a capacity of 61.2 kWh, promises a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. On the other hand, the larger 82.5 kWh battery pack claims a range of up to 700 kilometers. With its Blade battery pack, the smaller battery pack variant can be fast-charged at up to 110 kW DC, while the larger battery pack variant can reach a maximum charging capacity of 150 kW.
As for powertrain options, customers can choose between two configurations. The single-motor setup is available with both battery pack options, while the dual-motor setup is exclusively offered with the larger battery pack. The Indian version of the Seal EV will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering a power output of 530 bhp. It boasts a remarkable 0-100 kmph acceleration time of just 3.8 seconds.

In terms of dimensions, the Seal EV measures 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,920mm. The sedan adheres to BYD’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics design philosophy and is named after the oceanic inspiration behind its design—’Seal.’
Inside the cabin, the Seal EV offers a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. These advanced features enhance the overall driving experience.

When it comes to pricing, the BYD Seal EV is expected to have a starting price of approximately Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Its entry into the premium electric vehicle market in India is anticipated to make a significant impact.
